The story of the Georgia high school shooter, 14-year-old Colt Gray, has taken an even darker turn with troubling revelations about his mother, Marcee Gray. It has come to light that Marcee has a long criminal history dating back 17 years, which adds another layer of concern to an already devastating tragedy. These details reveal a pattern of domestic violence, drug use, and fraud that may have contributed to the chaotic environment in which Colt was raised.

Marcee, now 43, has faced multiple legal issues across four different counties in Georgia. Her rap sheet includes charges for drug possession, domestic violence, property damage, and even civil fraud. In her most recent encounter with the law, Marcee was arrested in November 2023, after being found in possession of meth, fentanyl, and muscle relaxants. However, she wasn’t charged for the drugs. Instead, she was charged with vehicle fraud for using a false license plate on her car.

In December 2023, Marcee pled guilty to these fraud-related charges and was sentenced to five years in jail. However, she only served 46 days behind bars before being placed on probation. As part of her sentence, Marcee was required to attend a family violence intervention program and was prohibited from using drugs or alcohol. She was also banned from contacting Colt’s father, Colin Gray, without a third-party mediator.

In April 2024, just months before the tragic shooting, Marcee was arrested again, this time for aggravated battery against an elderly woman. According to reports, Marcee assaulted a 73-year-old woman by throwing her against a wall, taping her hands and feet to prevent her from leaving, and damaging the woman’s property. This incident showcases a pattern of violent and erratic behavior that had been escalating over the years.

Neighbors have described the family as troubled ever since they moved into the neighborhood in 2022. One neighbor, Lauren Vickers, recalled disturbing incidents involving Marcee, including nights when she would lock Colt and his sister out of the house, leaving them to bang on the door, screaming for their mother.

‘There were nights where the mom would lock him and his sister out the house. And they would be banging on the back door, just screaming like ‘Mom! mom! mom!’ and crying. It was absolutely devastating,’ she said.

Marcee’s criminal record and her chaotic home life likely created a toxic environment for her children, especially Colt, who eventually became the perpetrator of a horrific school shooting. The tragedy is further compounded by the fact that authorities had been warned about the family. Just months before the shooting, Colt had been interviewed by law enforcement after making threats online about carrying out a school shooting. Despite these warning signs, no action was taken to confiscate the firearms in the Gray household or to further intervene in Colt’s upbringing.

Colt’s father, Colin Gray, has also been charged in connection with the shooting. He is accused of purchasing the AR-15-style rifle that Colt used to kill four people at his high school. Colin faces charges of second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and cruelty to children. Authorities have stated that Colin knowingly allowed his son access to the firearm, despite being aware of Colt’s troubling behavior.

The combination of Marcee’s criminal behavior, Colin’s negligence, and the lack of sufficient intervention by authorities creates a picture of a deeply dysfunctional family environment. Colt, already showing signs of instability, was essentially left to his own devices, with easy access to firearms and little to no supervision.

So, here we are, facing the harsh reality of a family plagued by criminal activity, poor decisions, and a complete lack of guidance. With Marcee’s disturbing past and Colin’s reckless actions, it’s no wonder this tragedy unfolded. The warning signs were all there – neighbors, authorities, and even friends could see the storm brewing. Yet, nothing was done to stop it. This case serves as a grim reminder of how dangerous it can be when serious issues are ignored, and lives are left spiraling out of control.
