Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, which was not stolen from him. But it’s long been part of the acknowledged price of being a Trump loyalist to deny that fact. And that extends to his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance.
It was probably the most memorable moment of the vice presidential debate earlier this month when, near the end of the debate, Vance was asked whether Trump won in 2020 and gave an insincere, noncommittal answer.
On Wednesday, Vance got the question again and gave a different answer.
At an event in Pennsylvania, Vance was asked by Gray Television senior national correspondent Peter Zampa, “What message do you think it sends to independent voters when you do not directly answer the question, did Donald Trump lose in 2020?”

Vance’s answer?
JD VANCE asked by a reporter in PA what message it sends to Independents that he hasn’t directly answered if Trump lost 2020 election: “I’ve answered this question directly a million times: No. I think there are serious problems in 2020. So, did Donald Trump lose the election?… pic.twitter.com/cd0pzckxwa

“First of all, on on on the election of 2020, I’ve answered this question directly a million times. No, I think there are serious problems in 2020. So did Donald Trump lose the election? Not by the words that I would use. Okay, so look, we could but but look, I really couldn’t care less if you agree or disagree with me on this issue.”
Many people pointed out how wrong it was for a vice presidential nominee to deny the reality of the most recent election.
Before you judge JD Vance for this, remember that his issue with 2020 is that the media is mean, and if he was VP he would have blocked certification because the media was mean.
He’s actually even stupider than most election deniers here because he’s not denying the results. https://t.co/6WJ2YEZ35C

“Stop and process what Vance is telling us. This no longer has anything to do with voter fraud, even imaginary fraud. He is saying that he would refuse to certify a presidential election if he believes the press treated his preferred candidate unfairly.” https://t.co/tOEjN11yVD

Refusing to accept defeat in the free, fair and hyper-adjudicated election is un-democratic and un-American — and should be disqualifying for any public office.
Supporting an insurrection over this Big Lie is traitorous. Vance and Trump are traitors. https://t.co/Qmj5rB3cxC
