Alaska’s Sen. Lisa Murkowski has a bold and sensible idea. She’s declared she won’t support President-Elect Donald Trump’s nominees unless they undergo a full vetting from the FBI. This will surely ruffle Trump’s feathers, but Murkowski’s idea is a good one.
Murkowski isn’t one of Trump’s ardent fans. She’s one of a handful of GOPers who voted to impeach the once and future president, and she was also opposed to Trump’s nomination of Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz for attorney general.
“I don’t think it’s a serious nomination for attorney general,” she told reporters. “We need to have a serious attorney general.”

The Hill reports she’s also likely to oppose Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination to head the Department of Health and Human Services. So I’m glad she and other Republicans are challenging Trump regarding his nominees, many of whom are quite obviously unqualified for the positions.

Interestingly, Murkowski didn’t vote for either Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris. She serves on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Commission and promoted vaccines when the COVID epidemic was under full swing. She did, however, vote in December 2021 to overturn the vaccine mandate for private businesses. So she’s obviously moderate in her position on vaccines but smart enough to know that his nominees need a thorough vetting.
Murkowski was also alarmed about Trump’s nomination of Fox News host Pete Hegseth, who’s also a military veteran, to lead the Department of Defense.
“Wow. … I’m just surprised. I’m not going to comment on whether it’s good, bad, or indifferent, I’m just surprised because the names that I’ve heard for secretary of Defense have not included him,” she told reporters.
She’s undoubtedly going to corner Trump on more than one occasion since she is one of his ardent critics, especially since she was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict him for inciting an insurrection during his Senate impeachment trial in 2021.
Maybe this means that if the President-Elect thought this would be easy-going, he’s got another thing coming.
Folks who read the post above on social media seemed to feel the same way.
Good for her. The ONLY reason they wouldn’t want to be vetted by the FBI is because they have something to hide. It’s not rocket science.

I’ll be the first to admit federal and state governments need a serious overhaul, but what this administration is planning can hardly be referred to as an “agenda.” It’s so much worse. Amazing how the majority can’t see that. That kool-aid must taste real good.

That’s how it should be.
Why are we living in an alternate reality where MAGA and Trump aren’t held to the same standards as everyone else?
— Matt (@ELE_Network) November 23, 2024
That last post is correct. Trump and his MAGA minions have gotten away with far too much. It keeps happening over and over again, especially now that a judge has decided to stay his conviction in his infamous Manhattan hush-money trial.
When is this favoritism going to end? It began in 2016 and it appears that this isn’t going to stop any time soon.
