Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) recently decided to mock Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, but instead of scoring points, he ended up reminding everyone of his own embarrassing past with Donald Trump. Cruz, who once called Trump a “pathological liar” and a “sniveling coward,” seemed to forget that the internet doesn’t forget.
The drama unfolded during an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News. Hannity set the stage by saying, “You have Joe and Mika going to Mar-a-Lago to kiss the ring and suck up to Donald Trump.” Cruz, clearly in the mood for some crude humor, replied, “I’m not even sure they were kissing the ring. I think they were kissing a little bit lower than that.” He went on to say, “They’re desperate for relevance.”

This might have been a moment for Cruz to score laughs with Trump’s base, but instead, it became a reminder of his own history of doing exactly what he accused the co-hosts of doing—sucking up to Trump.

Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane. Back in 2016, Cruz and Trump were locked in a brutal Republican primary. Cruz called Trump names like “utterly amoral” and “small and petty.” Trump, in turn, mocked Cruz’s wife, Heidi, and even floated a bizarre conspiracy theory linking Cruz’s father to JFK’s assassination. It was ugly. Fast forward to today, and Cruz is one of Trump’s biggest defenders. The same man who once described Trump as dangerous now bends over backward to stay in his good graces.
Now, about Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. The two hosts, who have been some of Trump’s most vocal critics, shocked everyone when they visited him at Mar-a-Lago. They claimed the meeting was to “restart communications,” but many saw it as hypocritical. After all, these are the same people who once compared Trump to a dictator and even Adolf Hitler.
Even Donald Trump Jr. jumped in with his own jab, saying, “I wouldn’t go and meet with Hitler, but that’s just me. Maybe it was all nonsense all along.” Their actions left many scratching their heads, wondering if they were more interested in access than holding onto their principles.
Here’s how people reacted to Cruz’s crude hypocrisy:
Cruz knows his birthmarks and prob has them tattoo’ed somewhere.🤮

This whole saga—Cruz’s crude comments and the Morning Joe visit—shows how far people will go to stay relevant in politics. On one hand, Cruz has abandoned every principle he claimed to stand for in order to stay on Trump’s good side. On the other, the Morning Joe hosts have jeopardized their credibility by cozying up to someone they spent years criticizing.
These kinds of flip-flops send a troubling message. Politicians and media figures should stick to their principles. Instead, many are more focused on power and access, even if it means turning their backs on everything they’ve said before.
