Today in disgusting right-wing Christian nationalist stupidity we have pastor Joel Webbon, who griped on a livestream that JD Vance is married to a “female Hadji.” This is cruel and I hope Vance is insulted by this racist remark by Webbon, who also called Vivek Ramaswamy “Hadji.”
Vance’s wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, is a lawyer, and despite the fact that she’s married to JD, she’s an intelligent woman who was born to Indian immigrants.
But Webbon kept referencing Jonny Quest, a cartoon that was popular in the 1960s and talked about Ramaswamy’s Hindu roots. I guess people like Webbon just never matured beyond cartoons, that’s all I can say here.
“He’s Hindu, he’s not wearing the turban but he’s Hindu, I stand by ‘Hadji,’ he said at on point, and later said”…he’s Indian like Jonny Quest but the point was…uh it’s America…no I don’t want him to be President um it’s America,” and so on.
After blathering more racist nonsense at Ramaswamy, Webbon then turned to Vance’s wife.

“…JD Vance, you know, who’s Catholic, now to be fair, isn’t he married to a Hindu yeah he’s married to a female yeah, yeah,” the video cuts off right before he says “Hadji,” but he was certainly headed in that direction.
I’m sure you understand how horribly racist this is. It’s just awful. But this is the right-wing Christian nationalist way. These folks think they’re Christian but Jesus wouldn’t want to even be in the same room with them. He’d go all medieval on these people as he did with the money changers in the temple.
I’m not a fan of Ramaswamy because he’s a Trump sycophant and I plain don’t like some of the ideas he’s pitched. He’s an idiot, but not because he’s Hindu or Indian. It has nothing to do with his religion or his nationality.
Period.

This is 1960s racism. Trump and his minions are bringing it back. I hope this doesn’t lead to riots, because if there’s one aspect of this era, it’s that was plenty of civil unrest. We’re heading in that direction again and no one can tell me any differently.
