It’s been the biggest gossip story surrounding Mar-a-Lago since the end of the presidential election: Donald Trump, Jr., has ended his relationship with Kimberly Guilfoyle after they were engaged for several years, and taken up with a woman named Bettina Anderson, a Palm Beach socialite.

The switch had been hinted at throughout the campaign, including when the younger Trump had been photographed with Anderson and later when Guilfoyle was left out of a “family” picture — which Elon Musk was included in, for some reason — on election night. But it appeared to become official in recent weeks, coinciding with the news that Guilfoyle was being nominated as ambassador to Greece.

Now, Trump, Jr., has released a statement to Page Six praising his now-former fiancee.  He has not confirmed the split, although he did choose the outlet that has done a great deal of reporting on the status of the relationship, and did not deny the split, either.

“Anyone taking baseless and petty fake news cheap shots at her in the tabloids are just embarrassing themselves,” Trump Jr. said in the statement. “She’s been an undefeated prosecutor, national TV news star, a leader of the MAGA movement and close advisor to the president. The people of Greece are getting an absolute star and now the whole world will see it more than ever.”

It’s not clear which “cheap shots” Trump is referring to.

People magazine reported last week that Don Jr. had issues with Guilfoyle’s “style,” and felt that Anderson would more impress his father. People is a magazine, and not part of “the tabloids.”

“Don Jr. has always wanted to look good in his father’s eyes,” one source told the magazine. “Someone like Bettina, who is and has been a model, and is in Waspy circles of Palm Beach is something that would impress him.”

“Don Jr. has been telling people for months that Kim is so uptight and always dresses so professionally in these kinds of dresses and high heels, and never looks relaxed or casual,” a different source told People in the same article.  “The tight dresses need to go and she has been told that.”
