Many observers of the second Trump Administration have been expecting the president to eventually feud with his adviser, Elon Musk. Both men, after all, have famously large egos and are used to being in charge in most situations.
That feud hasn’t come to pass yet, and Trump even hosted an unofficial Tesla dealership event at the White House last week. The president reacted to Tesla’s falling stock price by announcing that he was buying a Tesla.
However, according to a new White House palace intrigue story, Musk is not getting along well with Trump’s White House staff.

According to journalist Tara Palmeri, “the tolerance for Elon Musk inside of the White House is wearing thin.” The latest last straw was when Musk went on TV with Larry Kudlow, himself an economic adviser in the first Trump White House, and indicated that he favors cutting entitlements. He also shared false conspiracy theories about fraud and illegal payments going through Social Security.
“Even though Trump’s staffers are terrified of Musk, they know that if you try to cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, you die, politically speaking,” the report said.
The story also included an eye-opening anonymous quote from a “Republican operative close to the White House”: “Medicaid is not just for Black people in the ghetto, these are our voters.”

Palmeri also reported that Trump’s pollster, John McLaughlin, has not polled Musk’s public opinions. However, she also noted that “the White House is aware that Musk’s numbers are ‘dog shit.'”
The story also includes various quotes indicating that White House aides aren’t happy with Musk.
“He’s demonstrably dismissive of people who have incredibly important jobs because he doesn’t understand the government,” one source said. Another told the reporter that Musk has been “disrespectful” to Susie Wiles, the White House Chief of Staff.
“He treats [Wiles] like a secretary in front of people,” one source said. “The second most powerful person in Washington, the first woman and someone who has done a good job of keeping the trains running on time.”
“The [staff] hates him,” another source told Palmeri. “Part of it is policy and part is that he’s not human. He treats Susie like a fucking secretary. But they’re petrified of him.”
It’s the sort of story that seemed to have arrived daily in Trump’s first term, at least the first two years, but has been rarer in his second.
