Trump reassured Ingraham that the roses would stay, but the grass in the center would be replaced with a hard surface. He compared it to the patio at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
โThe roses stay. No, itโs a rose garden. No. All of this stays. Just the center section [of grass will be paved over]. I think itโs gonna be beautiful. I think itโs gonna be more beautiful,โ he said.
But not everyone agrees.
People quickly took to social media to criticize Trumpโs latest renovation. Many saw it as a perfect symbol of his presidencyโdestroying something meaningful and replacing it with something lifeless. Some even compared it to how he treats the country, calling it a โdead zone.โ

Some even pointed out that Melania had already ruined the Rose Garden during her time as First Lady, and now Trump was finishing the job.
Trump has always loved flashy changes. This isnโt the first time he has made a design choice that got people talking. His Trump Tower is covered in gold, which many people find tacky and outdated. In 2018, Trump redesigned Air Force One, replacing its classic blue-and-white look with a darker red, white, and navy design. In 2019, he installed gold-trimmed curtains in the Oval Office and replaced furniture with flashy Louis XIV-style pieces, giving the room a look that some compared to a luxury hotel lobby rather than the White House.
Now, heโs making changes to the Rose Garden again. Some argue that paving over the grass will make events easier to manage, preventing mud and uneven ground issues. Others believe it diminishes the spaceโs natural beauty and historic charm. Trump, however, insists it will be โmore beautiful.โ
