President Donald Trump began his Memorial Day with a bizarre post to Truth Social, which he started with “HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY.”

Then, the president headed to Arlington National Cemetery for the traditional Memorial Day ceremony, where he appeared to be a step behind Vice President J.D. Vance and others with the salutes and other motions:

Then, once he spoke, Trump gave something of a garbled speech, which “contained mispronounced words, and at times, the president was running his words together, making them difficult to understand.”

Per ABC News, Trump also waded into politics in the speech, which isn’t traditionally part of the president’s Memorial Day speech.

“Those young men could never have known what their sacrifice would mean to us, but we certainly know what we owe to them. That valor gave us the freest, greatest and most noble Republic ever to exist on the face of the earth. A republic that I am fixing after a long and hard four years. That was a hard four years we went through,” Trump said in the speech. “Who would let that happen? People pouring through our borders unchecked… People doing things that are indescribable and not for today to discuss.”

Earlier in the weekend, Trump delivered another address to graduating cadets at West Point, in which he implored them to avoid “trophy wives” and not stay behind to shake hands with the graduates.

“The job of the US Armed Forces is not to host drag shows, to transform foreign cultures, but to spread democracy to everybody around the world at the point of a gun,” Trump said, likely saying “but” when he meant to say “not.”

Getting even more attention in the speech was Trump’s advice to the cadets to avoid “trophy wives.”

“He ended up getting a divorce. Found a new wife. Can you say a trophy wife? I guess we can say a trophy wife,” Trump said.
