Within hours, fact-checkers stepped in. The post was flagged with a Community Note that explained the truth about the bill.
It turns out the bill does not fully remove taxes on tips, overtime, or Social Security. It only gives limited tax breaks. For example, only up to $25,000 in tips can be tax-free. For overtime, the cap is $12,500. And Social Security taxes stay exactly the same.
Also, people with higher incomes are left out of the bill completely. So even if you work hard and make a bit more, you may get no benefit at all.
The bill may sound like a big win when you read the tweet, but the reality is much smaller. It is not the full tax relief many people were promised.
To make things worse, the official White House account reposted the same message. That helped spread the false claim to even more people. This kind of behavior is harmful, especially when it comes from the government.
Let’s make it clear. The bill does not remove taxes on tips, overtime pay, or Social Security, despite what was claimed. It only offers a small break for some people, with strict limits on how much can qualify. And many workers, especially those with higher incomes, won’t qualify at all.
So if you are a server who makes $30,000 in tips a year, only $25,000 would be tax free. The rest is still taxed.
If you earn $15,000 in overtime, only $12,500 would count for the break. The rest is taxed too.
And no matter how little you earn from Social Security, you still have to pay tax on it.
Many people online pushed back hard against the post. One user wrote, “You’re just a liar. That’s all you do daily. You get paid to lie to the American people by the American people. How disgusting is that?”

The comment reflects growing anger from those who feel Karoline Leavitt is using her position to spread false information. Dozens of other replies said the same thing—accusing her of lying constantly and misleading the public on purpose.
A press secretary who knowingly lies every day to the American people about obvious and irrefutable facts.

@PressSec YOU are a damn liar! You claim to be a Christian yet you have no shame lying to the American people!
No tax on tips is a federal income tax deduction at the end of the year with a cap of $25,000 and an expiration date of 2028.
No tax on overtime is a federal income…

You are literally lying. There’s nothing in that bill about no tax on Social Security. How dumb do you think we are? We can read, you know.

People want real help, not flashy hashtags. If the bill was so “big and beautiful,” it wouldn’t need spin.
