There were rumblings throughout the day on Thursday that the Wall Street Journal was working on a big story about the relationship between President Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein. The newsletter Status reported that Trump was leaning on the newspaper to spike the story.

The story finally arrived Thursday night, with the headline “Jeffrey Epstein’s Friends Sent Him Bawdy Letters for a 50th Birthday Album. One Was From Donald Trump.” In 2003, the story says, Epstein’s sometime girlfriend and future criminal coconspirator  Ghislaine Maxwell was preparing a gift for Epstein, for which she collected letters from many of the financier’s friends, including Trump.

“The letter bearing Trump’s name, which was reviewed by the Journal, is bawdy—like others in the album. It contains several lines of typewritten text framed by the outline of a naked woman, which appears to be hand-drawn with a heavy marker. A pair of small arcs denotes the woman’s breasts, and the future president’s signature is a squiggly ‘Donald’ below her waist, mimicking pubic hair,” the report said.

The letter also included a strange “imaginary conversation” between Trump and Epstein:

“Voice Over: There must be more to life than having everything,” the note began.
Donald: Yes, there is, but I won’t tell you what it is.
Jeffrey: Nor will I, since I also know what it is.
Donald: We have certain things in common, Jeffrey.
Jeffrey: Yes, we do, come to think of it.
Donald: Enigmas never age, have you noticed that?
Jeffrey: As a matter of fact, it was clear to me the last time I saw you.
Trump: A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.

Trump, in reaction, is taking the position that the letter is not real. And after it was published, Trump threatened to file lawsuits against the Wall Street Journal, Rupert Murdoch, and News Corp.

Just 14 minutes later, Trump made a second Truth Social post, in which he announced that he had “asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval,” so that  “This SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats, should end, right now!
