Donald Trump wants Adam Schiff locked up. On Sunday night, the president took to Truth Social and told the world that the California senator should “pay the price of prison.” He accused Schiff of falsifying loan documents and hiding the truth about a house he owns in Maryland.
The attack wasn’t random. Schiff led Trump’s first impeachment in 2019 and helped dig into Russian interference in the 2016 election. He’s been one of Trump’s loudest critics for years. Now Trump is striking back.
He claimed that Schiff lied about where he lived just to get a lower mortgage rate. He said the Financial Crimes Division at Fannie Mae uncovered what he called a “sustained pattern of possible mortgage fraud.”

According to Trump, Schiff acted like the house in Maryland was his main home, even though he lives most of the time in California. By calling the Maryland place his primary residence, Schiff could get better loan terms. Trump said that was criminal.
Schiff fired back quickly. He called Trump’s words “a baseless attempt at political retribution.” He said he followed the law and had gotten advice from his lawyers before applying for the mortgage. A spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times that Schiff had been honest about moving between his homes in California and Washington, D.C.
Fannie Mae didn’t accuse Schiff of fraud or any crimes. The memo said there may have been “possible occupancy misrepresentation.” That’s a far cry from a prison sentence. But Trump seems determined to keep pushing the story.
In his post, Trump went even further. He brought up his son, Donald Trump Jr., and claimed Schiff had falsely said Junior would end up in prison during the Russia probe. Trump wrote, “My son did nothing wrong, knew nothing about the fictional story. It was an American Tragedy!” He added, “Now Shifty should pay the price of prison for a real crime.”
Schiff, now a senator, wasn’t surprised. “Since I led his first impeachment, Trump has repeatedly called for me to be arrested for treason,” he wrote on X. “So in a way, I guess this is a bit of a letdown.”
Since I led his first impeachment, Trump has repeatedly called for me to be arrested for treason.
So in a way, I guess this is a bit of a letdown.
And this baseless attempt at political retribution won’t stop me from holding him accountable.

In another post, he added, “And much as Trump may hope, this smear will not distract from his Epstein files problem.”
That’s the part Trump didn’t want brought up. The president is facing pressure for not releasing the records linked to Jeffrey Epstein, the sex offender who once spent time with him. People are now asking what he might be hiding.
So far, nothing has happened to Schiff legally. No charges, no case. And most people don’t believe anything will come from Trump’s threats.
