At a recent press conference, President Donald Trump made a big mistake. While talking about his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump said he was going to Russia, even though the meeting is actually planned to happen in Alaska.
This mistake spread fast online. People joked that Trump had already given Alaska back to Russia. After all, Alaska once belonged to Russia before the U.S. bought it in 1867. One person asked, “Wait, did he give Alaska back to Putin already?” Another said, “Wait, so Alaska is now Russia???” Others joked that the summit was a secret way to hand over Alaska.
The Alaska meeting is important. It will be the first time Putin sets foot on U.S. soil in ten years. The two leaders will discuss the war in Ukraine. But Ukraine’s President Zelensky will not be there.
Before the summit, Trump focused on crime in Washington, D.C. He promised to stop the rising violence and said he might take federal control of the city. “If D.C. doesn’t get its act together, and quickly, we will have no choice but to take Federal control of the City,” Trump said. “Make America Great Again!”

He showed a picture of a man named “Big Balls,” who was badly beaten after an attempted crime. Trump used this to show how serious crime has become in the capital.
On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump posted strong messages about crime. He called D.C. “one of the most dangerous cities in the world.” He blamed young gang members, some only 14 or 15 years old. Trump said these kids commit crimes but get away because the laws are weak.
“The law in D.C. must be changed to prosecute these ‘minors’ as adults,” Trump said. “We want our Capital BACK.”
He also said the homeless need to move out of the city, but promised to find them places far from the capital.
Trump did not stop at crime. He criticized how dirty and run-down the city looks. He said Washington D.C. used to be “the most beautiful Capital in the World,” but now it is full of dirt and tents.
He also attacked the government’s expensive building repairs. “We are not going to allow people to spend 3.1 billion dollars fixing up a building like the Federal Reserve,” Trump said. “That could have been done better, faster, and cheaper.”
Trump mentioned D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. He called her a “good person” but blamed her for letting crime and dirt get worse.
Right before the press conference, Trump promised a strong message. “Washington, D.C. will be LIBERATED today! Crime, savagery, filth, and scum will DISAPPEAR,” he said. “The days of ruthlessly killing or hurting innocent people are OVER!”
Reports say Trump is thinking about sending 1,000 National Guard troops to D.C. to fight crime.
But all that got pushed aside because of Trump’s Alaska mistake. Russian nationalists must be happy about this slip-up. They have long hoped to get Alaska back, and now Trump gave them a reason to smile.
