The Minneapolis Police Department confirmed that an active shooter opened fire Wednesday morning at Annunciation Church on the south side of the city. The church is located at 509 W. 54th Street.
Police said details are still limited, but many officers and paramedics rushed to the scene. Roads were closed, and neighbors were told to stay away. Initial information shows there are multiple victims, and some of them may be children. Police have not yet shared the total number of people injured or killed.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said he was briefed on the situation. In a post on X, he wrote: “The BCA and State Patrol are on scene. I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence.”
The church sits on the same grounds as a Catholic grade school. Parents rushed to the area while police tried to secure both buildings. The suspect’s status is still unknown.
