Honestly, this is horrifying.

Washington Post reporters Carol Leonnig and Philip Ruckerโ€™s new book, I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J. Trumpโ€™s Catastrophic Final Year, contains some serious bombshells, most notably those regarding the infamous January 6th Capitol riot โ€” and to make things even crazier, MSNBCโ€™s Nicole Wallace has some theories on those reports that have chilled us straight to the bone.

Apparently, Wallace, who used to serve as a communications director in George W. Bushโ€™s White House, called her own GOP sources when the Capitol was under attack.

โ€œWhat the book allows us to do is stop using the words โ€˜struggled with,โ€™ โ€˜tried and failed,'โ€ Wallace noted. โ€œThey failed to protect the country from Donald Trump. They failed. They failed to protect Mike Pence from Donald Trump. I want to read more about Mike Penceโ€™s experience on January 6th.โ€

During her segment of Deadline White House, Wallace read an excerpt of the bombshell book that described former Vice President Mike Pence being rushed out of the Capitol building to safety with his family. However, it seems the former VP was less than trusting of those around him, given everything that was going on at the time.

โ€œAt 2:26, after a team of agents scouted a safe path to ensure the Pences would not encounter trouble, Giebels and the rest of Penceโ€™s detail guided them down a staircase to a secure subterranean area that rioters couldnโ€™t reach, where the vice presidentโ€™s armored limousine awaited. Giebels asked Pence to get in one of the vehicles,โ€ the book reads.

Giebels told Pence, โ€ We can hold here.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not getting in the car, Tim,โ€ Mike Pence reportedly told him. โ€œI trust you, Tim, but youโ€™re not driving the car. If I get in that vehicle, you guys are taking off. Iโ€™m not getting in the car.โ€

The book goes on to explain that they instead found a secure area underground where they waited out the riot instead.

But Wallace said her own GOP sources โ€œfamiliarโ€ with the situation painted an even more grim picture of what was going through Penceโ€™s head and why he refused to get in his armored limo that fateful day.

โ€œPence feared a conspiracy, feared that the Secret Service would aid Trump and his ultimate aims that day,โ€ Wallace explained. โ€œThis is the most harrowing version of Mike Penceโ€™s day Iโ€™ve seen reported.โ€
