Trump has long had the habit of brutally and publicly attacking the media at every chance he gets, dubbing many reporters who dare to write or speak an ill word of him the “Enemy of the People.” However, it seems things are much, much different when the scandal-plagued former president is in private.
New York Times’ infamous “Trump Whisperer” Maggie Haberman is now spilling the beans on the ex-president’s private practices with reporters that he has no qualms attacking in public. According to Haberman, despite his public vitriol, the former president and 2024 candidate stays eager to contact these same reporters personally when he’s in private — including the “Trump Whisperer” herself.
Haberman made an appearance on CNN’s King Charles yesterday, where she admitted, “The way he is, he will always engage with a reporter eventually if he sees some reason to, so he called me the other day.”
Given how angry and hateful Trump is toward Haberman and her fellow reporters in the public eye, her revelation that Donald calls her in private took CNN hosts Charles Barkley and Gayle King by surprise, prompting them to question Haberman as to whether they heard her correctly.

“He called you the other day?” King questioned.
“For the first time in a long time,” Haberman explained. “He wanted to talk about these cases and these trials. I was writing a story about how politics and the courts would converge again in January, a couple weeks ago. And he called to say that he wanted to attend all these trials, and to talk about his attacks on the judge in the civil case to talk about E. Jean Carroll; much of what I didn’t report on.”
The Times reporter went on to explain that the former president wants to speak to her and other reporters personally because he feels there is no one better to defend him than himself.
“He thinks he’s his own best defender and you will see more of that,” Haberman said.
