GOP Senator Mitt Romney Issues Dire Warning About A Second Trump Term, Seems To Hint Former President’s Impulses Could Be Unleashed

This is a dire warning.

Mitt Romney, a well-known Republican senator, recently warned us about what might happen if Donald Trump becomes president again. He said,

“He would not have the generals around him as he did last time, people of judgment & experience…restraining his impulses. Instead, he’d have people around him encouraging his impulses…”

This is not just a small concern; it’s a big deal that could affect everyone. In simple terms, if Trump becomes president again, the people around him might not be the smart and experienced ones who can stop him from doing dangerous things. Instead, he might surround himself with people who only say “yes” to whatever he wants, no matter how bad or dangerous it is. This is what Romney, who knows Trump well, is warning us about.

Now, you might wonder, why aren’t more Republicans speaking out against Trump, especially those who no longer have to worry about getting re-elected? As Colin Jacobson pointed out in his tweet, “Honestly don’t understand why more Republicans whose political lives have ended don’t come out to say more against Trump.”

This is a good question! Many Republicans might be afraid to speak out because they don’t want to upset Trump’s loyal followers. But isn’t it time they stood up for what’s right, even if it’s a little scary?

But let’s talk about why Trump is such a big threat. First, Trump has a habit of choosing loyalty over skill. This means he picks people who agree with him, not necessarily the ones who are the best at their jobs. Joe Kushlick said it well in his tweet, “Trump has previously prioritized loyalty over expertise. With his experts having resigned, it’s likely that we will see more dangerous autocratic loyalists which Mitt Romney is alluding to if Trump were to be elected again.”

This is dangerous because it means that if Trump becomes president again, he could make very bad decisions, and no one around him would stop him.

Trump is also known for attacking democratic values. He often says that the media is the “enemy of the people” and calls elections “rigged” when they don’t go his way. These are things that can weaken democracy. If people don’t trust the media or the election process, then democracy itself is at risk. And let’s not forget the January 6th attack on the Capitol. Trump’s false claims about a stolen election led to that terrible event, showing just how dangerous his words can be.

According to the Washington Post, during his time as president, Trump made over 30,000 false or misleading claims. That’s about 21 lies per day! These lies aren’t just harmless; they make it hard for people to know what’s true, and they can cause real harm.

Another important fact is that Trump was impeached twice. The first time was for trying to get Ukraine to investigate his political rival, Joe Biden, by withholding military aid. The second time was for his role in the January 6th attack. No other president in U.S. history has been impeached twice. This shows how extreme and dangerous his actions have been.

It’s time for more people, especially Republicans, to wake up and realize that Trump is a danger to democracy. As Bruno Chieco tweeted, “Trump is an existential threat to democracy. Damn people wake up! People in his party, the GOP’s former presidential nominee is warning us of the dangers of a Trump presidency.” Let’s hope they listen before it’s too late.
