Recently, President Donald Trump shook up the Minneapolis ICE operation after another fatal shooting by federal agents. The move came after 37-year-old nurse Alex Pretti was killed during an enforcement operation over the weekend.

Trump sidelined Kristi Noem, who had been leading the crackdown, and appointed her longtime rival, Tom Homan, to take charge. “I am sending Tom Homan to Minnesota tonight. He has not been involved in that area, but knows and likes many of the people there,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Tom is tough but fair, and will report directly to me.”

The deadly incident is the second fatal shooting of a natural-born American since the Minneapolis crackdown began. Earlier this month, Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother, was shot by ICE agents while trying to leave a scene. Riots followed both incidents, with protesters clashing outside federal facilities.

Trump blamed local Democratic leaders for the chaos. He suggested that Minneapolis officials created a dangerous environment that allowed violence to occur.

“Separately, a major investigation is going on with respect to the massive 20 Billion Dollar, Plus, Welfare Fraud that has taken place in Minnesota, and is at least partially responsible for the violent organized protests going on in the streets,” he added.

Protests erupted again Sunday night outside a Minneapolis Hilton where ICE agents were staying. Demonstrators banged on windows, spray-painted walls, and tried to break into the hotel. Police reportedly did not intervene.

Noem acknowledged Homan’s appointment but praised his experience. “I have worked closely with Tom over the last year and he has been a major asset to our team — his experience and insight will help us in our wide-scale fraud investigations,” she said. She added that Homan would also help “remove even more public safety threats and violent criminal illegal aliens off the streets of Minneapolis.”

The deadly shooting drew strong reactions from across the country. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison called the federal account of the shooting “flat‑out insane” and said state officials will fight to hold federal agents accountable.

Trump, however, defended the federal operation and the use of ICE agents. The President described the deployment as part of the “largest federal immigration enforcement operation ever” and warned that thousands of illegal criminals had been arrested.
