A giant golden statue of President Donald Trump holding a Bitcoin just appeared outside the U.S. Capitol. Memecoin fans put it there during a Pump.fun livestream. They called it a tribute to the crypto-loving president.

The statue is 12 feet tall and sits opposite Union Square on the National Mall, about a mile from the White House.

Organizers say it honors Trump’s “unwavering commitment to advancing the future of finance through Bitcoin and decentralized technologies.”

It showed up on the same day the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 25 points. Lower rates usually help risky assets like crypto. The timing couldn’t have been better for the stunt.

Trump has been all-in on crypto for years. During his run, the industry gave him lots of money. While in office, he and his family increased their crypto holdings. That has raised some conflict-of-interest questions, especially since he eased some rules on the sector.

Hichem Zaghdoudi, one of the organizers, told ABC 7News DC: “The installation is designed to ignite conversation about the future of government-issued currency and is a symbol of the intersection between modern politics and financial innovation.”

He added to DC News Now: “This is a statement, this is to show everybody that without the president, we could never have had this mass adoption of Bitcoin, of cryptocurrencies, of all these big institutions buying Bitcoin. It shows that’s the future and this is our thank you, our statement, to the president.”

The statue is called the “Donald J. Trump Golden Statue” or DJTGST. It’s temporary, but organizers say it is meant to get people talking about digital assets, monetary policy, and the government’s role in finance.

Some people might point out that Bitcoin has been rising since late 2023, under President Biden. ETFs and more access for big investors helped push it higher. But hey, why let facts get in the way of a giant golden statue?

Trump statues aren’t new.

In June, a statue called “Dictator Approved” showed a golden hand crushing the Statue of Liberty’s crown. Later that month, a gold TV showed Trump dancing with Jeffrey Epstein amid the Epstein Files controversy.

This Bitcoin statue is different. It’s cheering for Trump, not mocking him. It’s at least the third Trump statue on the National Mall this year but possibly the first one in his favor.
