A sudden shooting rocked Fort Stewart in Georgia on Wednesday morning, leaving at least four people shot and a major Army facility locked down.
According to early reports, an active shooter opened fire in the 2ABCT area of Fort Stewart, which includes the Wright and Evans Army Airfield. The situation quickly escalated as emergency teams responded and multiple victims were rushed to nearby hospitals. Their conditions remain unknown.
Law enforcement sources told local outlets that a suspect has already been identified, but officials have not yet released the name. It’s still unclear if the person is in custody or if they are still on the run. Authorities have been tight-lipped as they work to secure the area and gather information.
Schools near the base were also locked down as a precaution. District officials confirmed the lockdown but emphasized there was “no immediate threat to the schools at this time.” Still, the panic has spread beyond the base, leaving local residents anxious as they wait for updates.

Fort Stewart, located about 40 miles southwest of Savannah, is home to the 3rd Infantry Division and is one of the largest military installations in the U.S. The base serves thousands of soldiers and families, and the airfield that was targeted plays a central role in daily operations and deployment support.
The Army has not released a public statement yet, but sources say an internal investigation is already underway. The Pentagon is also being briefed on the situation.
This is not the first time Fort Stewart has dealt with internal violence. In recent years, there have been scattered reports of suicides, accidental shootings, and mental health challenges affecting service members. But a direct shooting with multiple victims inside the base is rare and deeply alarming.
As of now, little is known about the motive behind the shooting.
More updates are expected as officials confirm new details.
