A gamble that flopped

Trouble is already brewing for Melania Trump’s long-awaited documentary before it even reaches theaters.

The film, titled MELANIA, reportedly cost around $40 million to make. It was promoted as a rare and personal look into Melania Trump’s life in the White House and her marriage to President Donald Trump.

Sources familiar with advance bookings say theaters in major cities are nearly empty. In New York City, only a small number of seats have been sold. In Palm Beach, a place known for strong Trump support, sales are described as just as weak.

One source summed it up simply. “Even in Trump country, theaters are practically empty.”

The documentary is being released by Amazon MGM. Studio executives were said to be confident that Melania Trump’s profile would bring in large crowds. That confidence now appears to be fading as the premiere date gets closer.

According to insiders, the lack of early momentum has sparked concern inside the studio. Some executives are now discussing whether to limit how much box office information is shared if the opening numbers fall short.

One source said the studio expected “a big turnout.” Another added that “so far, it is not materializing.”

The film was meant to offer behind-the-scenes access to a famously private figure. But curiosity alone does not seem to be enough to convince people to buy tickets.

Donald Trump tried to boost attention himself. When asked by reporters aboard Air Force One whether he had watched the documentary, he replied, “I’ve seen pieces of it,” before calling it “incredible.” He also pointed to Melania Trump’s past book sales, saying, “She did a book, and the book was a big number one bestseller.” He added that the documentary “seems to be captivating a lot of people.”

He later described the premiere as “a very hard ticket.”

The numbers suggest otherwise.

The reported budget has raised eyebrows in Hollywood. Spending $40 million on a documentary signal huge expectation. So far, those expectations are not being met.

Industry observers say the response reflects growing fatigue with the Trump brand. After years of nonstop headlines, scandals, and drama, audiences may no longer be eager for another Trump centered project.
