President Donald Trump’s recent posting of a picture of himself as Jesus Christ may have been condemned by some of his most staunch supporters, but it doesn’t appear to have caused any kind of real rupture with Christian conservatives.
The president has been invited to participate in a bible-reading event called “America Reads the Bible,” and will do so virtually.
“This week, I send my best wishes to every citizen gathered at the Museum of the Bible, on the National Mall, and all across our country participating in America Reads the Bible, a historic initiative in which nearly 500 Americans will take part in a public reading, over the course of one week, of the entire Bible—from Genesis to Revelation—to celebrate 250 years of the Bible in America,” the president said in a White House statement.

“Today, during our 250th year of American independence, the America Reads the Bible initiative invites all citizens to once again acknowledge our Nation’s extraordinary Biblical foundations and to give thanks for the countless ways in which God has been the sacred source of our unity and national strength,” the president added as part of a lengthy statement. “This one-week event, during which leaders in faith, Government, business, and entertainment will read every verse and chapter of the Bible, will inspire countless citizens to rediscover the Biblical truths that have animated our Republic for two and a half centuries and to pray that the Bible will continue to guide us—as individuals, as a people, and as a Nation—for the next 250 years and beyond.”

Trump will be reading 2 Chronicles 7:11-22, which per the King James Bible states “Thus Solomon finished the house of the Lord, and the king’s house: and all that came into Solomon’s heart to make in the house of the Lord, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.”
