If you were anything like me, you were so hopeful that Donald Trump finally being booted from the White House would serve as the saving grace this nation so desperately needed. And while I certainly, whole-heartedly feel like President Biden is doing an amazing job, especially given the God-awful mess he was handed from the Trump administration, things continue to happen in this country that makes it hard to feel like we’re not still in the death grip of the Republican party.
The fact of the matter is, we’re still grappling with the concept of voting rights that never should have been brought under questioning to begin with, we’re still dealing with the Right attempting to erase history that doesn’t smile on them favorably, we still have multiple states across the country where COVID is running absolutely rampant because their Republican leadership values “FrEeDoM” over genuine human life, and now we have Supreme Court justices who aren’t even trying to hide where they stand when it comes to the likes of this newfound Republican standard, despite taking an oath to be fair and uphold this country’s Constitution.
According to recent reporting, associate justice of the Supreme Court Neil Gorsuch, who was appointed to his position by now ex-president Donald Trump, was slated to speak at a Florida Federalist Society event — which also featured the likes of Donald Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence, Florida’s GOP governor Ron DeSantis, and former Trump administration Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany.
As @lawrencehurley and @GregStohr have reported, Neil Gorsuch will speak at a Florida Federalist Society event that also features Pence and DeSantis (and Kayleigh McEnany).

To say the very least, people didn’t react well to the news:

If this is not a serious conflict of interest, what would be? The idea that because he puts on a polyester robe, we are supposed to believe then he is not subject subject to conflicts as the rest of us. I’m sorry unless he can show me he can walk on water, this is improper

Appallingly bad form. Avoiding the look of partiality isn’t mandated for SCOTUS because the assumption is anyone who’s made it that far would be too classy to breach the unspoken rule.

How can we involve ourselves in other countries government, when our democracy is crumbling as we speak?

There’s just no excuse for this. Whatsoever.
