The American people have just witnessed history in the making.
After literal years of waiting on bated breath to see Donald J. Trump finally held accountable to the law and his crimes — and many, many sleepless nights of truly wondering if that day would ever come — American history was made just moments ago when a jury of 12 of Donald Trump’s peers delivered a guilty verdict against the former president on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the Manhattan Stormy Daniels Hush Money trial, after nearly 12 hours of deliberation spread across two days.
This is the very first time, in the history of the United States of America, that a sitting or former US president has been convicted of a crime.
However, celebrations among Americans who have long been waiting for this moment are bittersweet, at the very best, as analysts are already warning that our worst nightmare could soon come true — as there is technically nothing stopping Donald Trump from not only running but serving as President of the United States potentially while on house arrest or even from prison in the wake of his felony conviction.

The unsettling discussion came during a CBS News panel directly following Trump’s verdict.
Major Garrett and Jan Crawford discussed the unprecedented possibilities we could soon see in the United States, with the presidential election right around the corner and a presumptive nominee of a major party formally convicted of more than 30 felonies:
Donald Trump can potentially still serve as president in prison or under house arrest. @majorcbs and @jancbs address the unprecedented questions that now follow Trump’s criminal conviction: “It is almost inconceivable to think about the road ahead.” https://t.co/gEhF0uMd76 pic.twitter.com/NhPLuO87cw

It’s hard to celebrate what should feel like a win for our side today when the literal fate of this nation still hangs so precariously in the balance.
It is not supposed to be this way.
