Donald Trump appeared Wednesday night for a town hall broadcast on Univision, during which he took questions from Hispanic voters. The questions were tougher than most Trump has received throughout the campaign- and the audience reacted not nearly as well as Trump is used to.

Earlier in the day, Trump had participated in a town hall with an all-female crowd, reportedly packed with his supporters. That was not the case for the Univision event.

One of the more notable questions at the town hall came from a man named Ramiro Gonzalez. He described himself as no longer registered as a Republican, although he said he was giving Trump “the opportunity to win back my vote.”

He specifically mentioned Trump’s actions on January 6, his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, and “people in your administration who do not support you,” including his own former vice president, Mike Pence.

Trump’s answer?

“The vice president, I disagree with him on what he did. I totally disagreed with him on what he did,” Trump said of Pence, who a mob of Trump’s supporters vowed to hang on that day. He also declared that 97 percent of the people in his administration continue to support him.

“They didn’t come because of me,” Trump said of the January 6 rioters, who had explicitly been summoned to Washington due to a tweet from the then-president. “They came because of the election. They thought the election was a rigged election, and that’s why they came.” He also claimed, very falsely, that “there were no guns down there.” He went on to call January 6 “a day of love.”

The crowd, while Trump said all of this, did not appear to buy Trump’s lies about the violent mob that he personally summoned to the capitol that day.

It’s not clear if Gonzalez was convinced by that answer to vote for Trump. But the Internet had thoughts on the exchange:
