Recently, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar was attacked during a town hall in Minneapolis. A man sprayed an unknown substance on her as she spoke about the recent Border Patrol shooting of Alex Pretti. She had also called for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to resign.

As she spoke, a man in a black jacket ran toward the podium and sprayed an unknown liquid at her. He yelled that Omar “should resign” and claimed she was “tearing Minnesota apart.” Security quickly tackled him and escorted him out.

Omar appeared calm despite the attack. She walked toward the man before he was dragged away and muttered, “F**king a**hole.”

When a bystander told her she needed to “get checked” for whatever was sprayed, she said: “We will continue. These f**king a**holes are not going to get away with it.”

Born in war-torn Somalia, Omar later told the crowd: “I have survived war and I’m definitely going to survive intimidation and whatever these people think they can throw at me because I’m built that way.”

The attack came after Omar called for Noem to resign during the town hall. She said: “DHS Secretary Kristi Noem must resign or face impeachment.” The crowd applauded her statement.

This was Omar’s first town hall since the fatal ICE shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. The incidents sparked large protests in Minneapolis against ICE. House Democrats have launched an investigation into Noem. So far, 140 Democrats have co-sponsored an impeachment resolution, citing self-dealing, obstruction, and violation of public trust.

Republicans have also attacked Omar personally. President Trump criticized her during an Iowa rally, saying: “We need people to come in legally, but they have to show that they can love our country, not hate our country…They have to show that they can love our country. They have to be proud. Not like Ilhan Omar.”

House Republicans launched an investigation into Omar after her family’s reported wealth jumped to over $30 million in a single year. They are examining whether her financial gains are connected to businesses tied to her family.
