A new video released by police had added fresh urgency to the search for the person behind the deadly shooting at Brown University.
Authorities say a person of interest has now been taken into custody in connection with the attack. Police have not released the individual’s name or confirmed any charges, citing an ongoing investigation.
The footage originally showed a man walking away from the campus moments after gunfire broke out. Investigators had believed he may be linked to the attack that killed at least two students and injured several others.
According to Providence Police, the man was seen leaving the Barus and Holley engineering building shortly after the shooting. He was dressed in dark clothing and moved calmly through the area. However, his face could not be seen clearly, which is why officers had asked the public for help in identifying him.

The shooting happened on Saturday afternoon while students were taking final exams.
At first, confusion filled the halls. Students said they heard loud popping sounds that sounded like construction. Within moments, that confusion turned into fear as people ran for exits or hid inside classrooms.
Soon after, emergency alerts were sent out. Students were told to lock doors, silence phones, and stay hidden until further notice.
Next, police and emergency crews rushed in.
More than 400 officers from local, state, and federal agencies flooded the campus. Ambulances lined nearby streets as victims were taken to hospitals.
Officials later confirmed that at least two people had died. Nine others were injured, some of them critically.
As night fell, the campus was placed under lockdown.
Brown University is known to have hundreds of security cameras across campus. Yet police admitted they do not have clear footage showing the shooter’s face during the attack.
