Donald Trump very frequently makes claims that he personally put an end to various wars around the world, as part of his constant and almost certainly doomed quest to one day win the Nobel Peace Prize. Such claims often mean stretching the definition of what a “war” is, or exaggerating either his own involvement in the talks, or whether the conflict in question is truly over.
On Thursday, Trump was slammed when making such a claim during a summit in South Korea.
As reported by The Daily Beast, Trump was “brutally fact-checked to his face by the Chinese leader Xi Jinping over claims he made about solving another war.”
Even on the world stage, his lies are so brazen that a translator has to publicly correct him. It’s beyond embarrassment. It’s a diplomatic clown show, revealing a man so addicted to fiction he’ll humiliate himself before global leaders.https://t.co/STqwvnIXOB

This time, it involved the border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia, and he was corrected by none other than his Chinese counterpart.
“During your visit to Malaysia, you witnessed the signing of the Joint Declaration on Peace along the Cambodia-Thailand border, and you provided your support,” Xi said at the summit, through a translator. “China has assisted Cambodia and Thailand in our own way to resolve the border dispute, and we continue to promote peace talks to address other pressing issues in the region.”
The deal, the Beast reported, was “driven” by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), while Trump attended the ceremony.
Per The BBC, it’s been questioned whether the Cambodia/Thailand agreement even qualifies as a “peace deal,” as the two countries were not in a full-on war.
Trump: I ended eight wars in eight months. No president that we know has ever ended any war.

“Trump had asked for this special ceremony as a condition for coming to the annual Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit – a gathering US presidents have attended at times in the past, but not always,” The BBC reported. “And he used it to press his campaign to be recognized as a great peacemaker.
“The eight wars that my administration has ended in eight months – there’s never been anything like that,” Trump said, once again exaggerating his record. “We’re averaging one a month… It’s like, I shouldn’t say it’s a hobby, because it’s so much more serious, but something I’m good at and something I love to do.”
