Donald Trump returned to office in 2025, in part, on a promise to stop stubborn inflation. Now, nearly a year and a half into his second term, it’s clear he hasn’t succeeded in changing voters’ impression that prices are too high.
In a CNN segment on Wednesday, it was made clear that voters don’t see inflation as solved and now blame Trump. In fact, Trump has the worst inflation ratings of any president in history.
According to Mediate, Harry Enten shared polling numbers that were so bad for the president that actor John Berman was surprised.
“If inflation is so important as an issue, as a political issue, how do they think the president is doing on it?,” Berman asked, per the Mediaite transcript.
Trump’s numbers on inflation aren’t just the worst for him ever. They’re the worst I’ve seen for any president. They’re worse than Biden’s worst & worse than Carter’s pre-1980 election.

“Yes, it is the number one issue. The number one issue. It’s the number one financial issue,” Enten replied. “It’s the number one issue folks saying it’s facing their families right now. And Donald John Trump is in the worst position he has ever been on inflation. And more than that, these are the worst numbers I’ve ever seen for any president. I mean, just look at this. Look at this.
According to Ipsos — look at this — net approval rating on inflation. We got the latest poll out. He’s 49 points underwater.”
And while inflation may have helped end Joe Biden’s presidency, it’s now an even worse picture for Trump, even though inflation is lower.
“So Trump is lower now on inflation than Joe Biden ever was, according to Ipsos. And I will note that the inflation rate right now is only about a third as it was back in June of 2022. Yet Trump’s numbers are significantly worse than Biden’s ever were,” Enten added.
Part of the problem is that gas prices are very high — due directly to actions Trump has taken, in invading Iran — and voters blame Trump directly for that.
