On May 19, President Trump hosted a ceremony at the White House to honor three law enforcement professionals who lost their lives in the line of duty while presenting Medals of Sacrifice to their families. One of the women present, Alexandria Diaz, made it clear from her facial expression that she didn’t seem to want to be there, leading to a viral moment.

Diaz is the daughter of  Deputy Ignacio “Dan” Diaz, who worked for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and died in an accident while on duty in November 2024, along with two other officers, Corporal Luis Paez and Deputy Sheriff Ralph “Butch” Waller.

According to Newsweek, the younger Diaz’s facial expressions during the White House ceremony were noticed by many. The White House, while sharing images from that ceremony, did not include any that featured Diaz.

As pointed out by the Palm Beach Post, Diaz “stood stone-faced as Trump handed her the medal and avoided eye contact as he appeared to try to engage her. Trump glanced at Alexandria as she displayed the medal to photographers. If he expected some form of acknowledgment or warmth, he got none.”

Alexandria Diaz has since broken her silence, calling going viral her “worst nightmare” while also clarifying her views.

“To cover some points: I’m not a cop. Not a Republican. I was there, I received that medal because my dad died in the line of duty along with two other officers alongside him last year in Palm Beach, which was a huge news story. That’s why Trump is so involved, because it was in Palm Beach,” Diaz said in a TikTok video. She added “Free Palestine.”

Diaz has spoken about her late father in the past, including at his funeral last year.

The president’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, had relatives of the other officers on her Fox News show but did not interview Alexandria Diaz.
