It’s fair to say Donald Trump hasn’t gotten a very positive reception since arriving in Davos, Switzerland, for the annual World Economic Forum.
European leaders, CNN reported, were planning to “stage an intervention” to get Trump to back off his idea of a United States takeover of Greenland. The network also reported that the president was “starting to lose” the crowd in Davos, about an hour into his speech on Wednesday.
“While Trump mused about the quality of the groundskeeping in Washington, DC, following his National Guard deployment, many in the audience began checking their phones, with some stifling yawns or visibly trying to stay awake,” the report said. “A restless few even began gathering their belongings and heading for the exit.”
In addition, as he arrived in Switzerland for the forum, per Newsweek, the president was greeted with a glowing “No Kings” sign on a mountain near the site of the summit. NBC’s Peter Alexander posted the photo:
As President Trump began his news conference stateside… in Davos, we spotted the words “NO KINGS” – in all caps – glowing on the mountainside overlooking the World Economic Forum site where Trump speaks tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/E152uXfdnD

Who was responsible?
“Time-lapse footage provided to Storyful by the group who organized the display shows people setting up torches on the slope before setting them alight,” Storyful reported. “Several close-up images provided also show the torches burning in the snow. Swiss newspaper Watson reported that a group of 10 locals took 450 torches up nearly 800 meters to set up the display.”
There was much reaction on social media to the lit-up letters on the mountain:

Swiss Locals write “No Kings” on Mountain over Davos.
A clear message for Donald Trump at the WEF. Using 450 torches, locals wrote “No Kings” in huge letters on the side of a mountain high above Davos. The message could be seen for miles around. pic.twitter.com/MNtrib6wKW

Fellow progressives, we must all make a regular pilgrimage to No Kings Mountain.
I say we do it the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November every even numbered year. https://t.co/Z56cgrlJBb
