Last week, after the Wall Street Journal reported that Donald Trump once wrote a birthday message to Jeffrey Epstein, the president responded with such outrage that he sued the newspaper, its parent company, the reporters involved, and even Rupert Murdoch.

Now, it doesn’t appear that the Journal is backing down from reporting on Trump’s past friendship with Epstein. In fact, it may have discovered something even more damning.

The Journal reported on Wednesday that the Justice Department told Trump that his name is mentioned in the government’s files related to Epstein.

“When Justice Department officials reviewed what Attorney General Pam Bondi called a ‘truckload’ of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein earlier this year, they discovered that Donald Trump’s name appeared multiple times, according to senior administration officials,” the Journal reported.

“In May, Bondi and her deputy informed the president at a meeting in the White House that his name was in the Epstein files, the officials said. Many other high-profile figures were also named, Trump was told.”

Per the Journal, “being mentioned in the records isn’t a sign of wrongdoing.” Hundreds of names, the story said, are also included in the files.

The Journal story states that the files contain “unverified hearsay about multiple people, including Trump, who had socialized with Epstein in the past.” It has long been known that Trump and Epstein were friends, for an extended period, in the 1980s and 1990s, with CNN reporting earlier this week that Epstein was in attendance at Trump’s second wedding, to Marla Maples, in 1993.

The story also says that the Justice Department is not planning to release additional materials from the files, because “the material contained child pornography and victims’ personal information.”

The revelations in the new Wall Street Journal story do not show any evidence have Trump having direct involvement with Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes, nor do they indicate that the Justice Department’s determination that Epstein held no blackmail files, or a “client list,” was inaccurate.
