Donald Trump was impeached twice during his first term, though he was not removed from office either time, and neither impeachment prevented him from being elected to office a second time.
However, that hasn’t stopped a new effort from emerging to impeach Trump a third time.
According to Newsweek, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) has filed 26 new articles of impeachment for Trump; they cover such topics as “use of military power, federal spending, tariffs, presidential pardons, the federal workforce, universities, law firms, the media, and alleged personal financial benefit from the presidency,” Newsweek said.

As for the actual titles of the articles, they include “Sowing Doubt in Elections,” “Waging War on Iran Without Congressional Approval,” “Extrajudicial Killings in International Waters of Venezuela,” “Deploying Military Forces Against United States Cities,” “The Birthright Citizenship Executive Order,” “Canceling Federal Grants to Punish States for Their Votes,” “Imposing Loyalty Tests on the Federal Workforce,” “The Alien Enemies Act and the Case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia,” “Cruel and Unusual Punishment at CECOT,” “Unlawful Withholding of Appropriated Funds and Dismantling of Congressionally Established Programs,” “Obstructing the Lawful Appointment of United States Attorneys,” “Defying Court Orders in Immigration Enforcement,” “Abolishing a Congressionally Mandated Agency—The Department of Education,” “Unlawful Mass Termination of Inspectors General Without Statutory Notice to Congress,” and “Unlawfully and Unilaterally Taxing United States Citizens Through Emergency Powers Tariffs”- and that’s only the first 15 of the 26.
To be sure, the effort is unlikely to go anywhere, because the Republicans currently control the House, and are not going to move the impeachment process forward. Democrats could pursue an impeachment inquiry should they recapture Congress in the midterm elections, but if they do, Steve Cohen won’t be a part of it, as he announced in May that he will retire at the end of his current term, following the GOP redistricting effort that split his district into three parts.
Trump, at various times, has threatened that Democrats will impeach him if they gain control of Congress.
