Bombshell new reporting from ABC News has confirmed that now-former President Donald Trump actually was not responsible for writing the January 6th, 2021 tweet calling on protesters to remain “peaceful” amid the infamous Capitol insurrection, but was instead drafted by one of the then-president’s top aides who all but forced him to publish the social media post in the midst of the violence and mayhem.
The American people were already painfully aware of Donald Trump’s reluctance to help stop the deadly violence at the US Capitol as his supporters stormed the building with Congress inside in an effort to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s 2020 election win and, thereby, Donald Trump’s humiliating loss. That information first came out last year during the January 6th House Select Committee’s investigation into the happenings of that fateful day and the scandal-plagued ex-president’s role in inciting the violent attack.
At the time of the House Select Committee’s investigation, it was discovered that the then-president was heavily reluctant to call in law enforcement officials to stop the burgeoning attack in the early hours of the protest and instead only seemed interested in watching the chaos and brutality unfold on television while making calls to his attorneys and Republican allies.
However, if that information weren’t bad enough in and of itself, new information has now come to light, revealing that the small amount of milquetoast requests for peace we saw come through on Donald Trump’s Twitter that day weren’t even actually penned by him, but rather all but forced on him by his closest aides who were concerned and horrified by what was unfolding at the US Capitol in Trump’s name.

ABC is now reporting on new details regarding what was actually going on behind the closed doors of the White House on January 6th, 2021. According to the new reporting, it was Dan Scavino — Trump’s then-deputy chief of staff turned current senior advisor to his 2024 presidential campaign — who actually attempted to force the then-president into trying to calm his rabid band of supporters.
This new information comes from inside sources with direct knowledge of testimony Scavino recently gave to the US Department of Justice, as part of the DOJ’s investigation into Donald Trump’s J6 actions.
Sources told the publication that a small band of Donald’s closest aides and advisors heavily urged the president to call for peace as they watched the Capitol insurrection unfold in real-time. Those sources went on to state that after about 20 minutes of pleading with Trump, they left him alone in the White House dining room. This apparently resulted in the then-sitting president of the United States writing and publishing a tweet that attacked his own vice president, Mike Pence, for not having “the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country.”
Following the heinous Pence tweet, Trump’s aides and his attorney Pat Cipollone once again attempted to convince Donald Trump to call for peace among his supporters.
Ultimately, Scavino allegedly wrote out multiple options and presented them to Donald Trump.
Finally, at 2:38 p.m. local time, a post was published on Donald Trump’s official Twitter account, reading, “Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!”
Sources said that Scavino told DOJ investigators that Trump remained reluctant throughout the Capitol attack to put out any additional public messages calling for an end to the violence or a peaceful protest.
A spokesperson for Donald Trump reached out to Business Insider and said that “media fascination with second-hand hearsay shows just how weak the Witch-Hunt against President Trump is. Dan Scavino is one of President Trump’s longest-serving, most loyal allies, and his actual testimony shows just how strong President Trump is positioned in this case.”
