Donald Trump Reportedly Pushing Ron DeSantis To Appoint Lara Trump To Marco Rubio’s Senate Seat

This is bad leadership.

Donald Trump is asking Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, to the U.S. Senate. This comes after reports that Senator Marco Rubio might leave his seat to become secretary of state in Trump’s new administration. The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump is lobbying DeSantis to make this appointment, raising questions about whether Lara Trump is the right choice for the job.

Lara Trump does not have much experience in politics. She worked as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) since March and helped the Republican Party win back the White House, Senate, and keep a majority in the House. However, this is a very short record for someone who might serve in the Senate.

Even Lara Trump herself admitted she doesn’t know exactly what the job would involve. “If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like,” she said in an interview. “But yeah, I would 100% consider it.”

This lack of experience worries some people. The Senate is a powerful place where leaders make important decisions on laws and policies that affect millions of people. Critics believe someone with more experience should take the role.

Many believe Trump’s push for Lara Trump is not about what’s best for Florida but about keeping power in his family. This just seems like another example of Trump focusing on personal loyalty over qualifications.

Governor DeSantis has many experienced leaders to consider for this position. For example, people like DeSantis’ Chief of Staff James Uthmeier and Attorney General Ashley Moody have strong political records. However, Trump’s allies are pushing hard for Lara Trump. Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera said, “She did a phenomenal job at the RNC and ensuring victories up and down the ballot, and I think she would make a great senator.”

But Lara Trump is new to Florida politics. She and her husband, Eric Trump, moved to Florida only three years ago. Some say this makes her less connected to the state and its issues.

Governor DeSantis is in a difficult position. If he chooses Lara Trump, it could look like he’s letting Trump make decisions for him. But if he refuses, he risks upsetting Trump and his supporters.

This situation highlights a bigger problem in politics: family dynasties. Donald Trump’s presidency often involved his family members in key roles. Now, he seems to want to extend that influence into the Senate.

Lara Trump’s resignation from the RNC has only fueled speculation about her ambitions. “With that big win, I kind of feel like my time is up,” Lara Trump said, explaining why she stepped down from her RNC role.

But the Senate isn’t a place for political favors or falmily connections. Florida needs a senator with deep knowledge of the state’s problems and a strong record of leadership.

This is a big decision for Florida and for America. The Senate is too important to be treated like a family business. Floridians deserve a leader who will work for them—not someone appointed because of their last name. As one observer said, “We have a lot of people that could represent Florida very, very well and step in after Sen. Rubio.”

Now it’s up to DeSantis to decide: Will he put Florida first or follow Trump’s wishes?
