Elon Musk’s Mother Joins The Fray, Pushes Dangerous Election Lies—Internet Makes Her Instantly Regret It

She should have stayed out of this.

It seems the Musk family has officially cemented itself in the world of Trumpism and election conspiracies. Over the weekend, both Elon Musk and his mother, Maye Musk, made headlines for their questionable and outright dangerous rhetoric surrounding the upcoming 2024 election.

Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and owner of Twitter/X, appeared at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, openly endorsing the former president. In a bizarre turn of events, Musk declared himself “Dark MAGA,” a strange twist on Trump’s campaign slogan that further aligns the tech mogul with far-right conspiracy theorists. His presence on the rally stage, hopping around and delivering pro-Trump rhetoric, was a clear signal that Musk has fully embraced Trump’s anti-democratic, anti-truth agenda.

However, while Elon was soaking in the MAGA glory, it was his mother, Maye Musk, who truly caused a stir. In a mind-boggling tweet, Maye Musk suggested a blatantly illegal strategy for Trump supporters to cheat their way through the 2024 election. Responding to her son’s tweet urging people to register to vote, she proposed using “10 fake names” to vote multiple times at different polling stations. According to her, this wasn’t illegal—an assertion that was quickly flagged by Twitter/X’s fact-checkers, who pointed out that, yes, voter fraud is still very much against the law.

The backlash was swift. Social media users immediately mocked her, with one calling her “as dumb as her son.” The criticism didn’t stop there. People even linked Maye to Tina Peters, a MAGA supporter recently sentenced to nine years in prison for tampering with election data. It seems the Musk family’s dive into conspiracy theories isn’t going unnoticed, and Maye’s comments are just more fuel to the fire.

Hours later, after being publicly called out, Maye backtracked, tweeting a half-hearted correction, claiming that Republicans would “make sure no illegals vote,” a statement that once again drags the conversation into the realm of baseless election lies.

Elon Musk, who once claimed that Twitter/X would remain politically neutral, has clearly abandoned that pretense. His rhetoric at the rally sounded straight out of Trump’s playbook, warning that Democrats want to “take away your freedom of speech” and “your right to vote”—statements that are entirely unfounded.

After the rally, former Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger aptly summed up the absurdity of Musk’s position, calling him a “weird dork” and criticizing his continued rise as one of the largest U.S. military contractors despite his harmful rhetoric.

It’s clear that the Musk family is all in on Trump and his baseless election lies. What’s more dangerous, however, is their reach—especially Elon’s, who controls one of the largest social media platforms in the world. If this weekend’s antics are any indication, the Musk family’s blend of conspiracy theories, misinformation, and outright lies could have serious consequences for the future of American democracy.
