Harmeet Dhillon is one of Donald Trump’s top legal voices inside the Justice Department. She holds a powerful role as assistant attorney general for Civil Rights, a job that deals with America’s core freedoms and laws. But this week, she made a slip that everyone noticed.
Dhillon posted a cheerful photo from the Oval Office, hand in hand with Trump, proudly smiling in front of a framed historic document. She tried to celebrate the moment with a patriotic caption about the Constitution.
I love the Constitution AND my favorite President! pic.twitter.com/mrsyAufSf7

The document behind her was not the Constitution. It was the Declaration of Independence.
The internet saw it, and the clapbacks came fast.
We The People would like to tell you that the framed document in the photo is the Declaration of Independence. JFC!

Even veteran journalist John Harwood stepped in, saying a top Justice Department official should at least know the difference between the two most famous documents in U S history.
a top DOJ official ought to know the difference between the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence https://t.co/O8cXQdvZ7q

Hours later, Dhillon quietly tried to fix her caption, slipping in a mention of the Declaration to cover the error. But by then, the damage was done. The screenshots were everywhere.
The framed Declaration is one of several items Trump has added to the Oval Office since returning. His taste has not changed. The room is covered in gold accents, gold eagles, and shiny décor. He has even launched a massive gold-plated ballroom project, now expected to cost around $300 million, reportedly funded by wealthy donors.
