President Donald Trump took the stage on Wednesday night for a 20-minute address that was familiar in content but alarming in delivery.
According to former White House cardiologist Jonathan Reiner, the problem was not what the president said but how he said it.
He told CNN: “He had a manic cadence. It was almost frantic, like listening to a podcast on double speed. Very disturbing.”
Reiner is pointing to more than one isolated incident. He noted that in recent weeks, Trump appeared drowsy in the Oval Office and during cabinet meetings, a pattern doctors call increased daytime somnolence. Then, hours later, the president delivered a rapid speech in front of the nation. “We have never seen the president like that,” Reiner said bluntly.

He described the delivery as pressurized and rapid fire, with the pacing growing faster as the speech went on. Combined with visible bruises on his hand and swollen ankles, Reiner said the White House owes the public more transparency. “No one should be happy to see the president like this. He looks unwell,” he warned.
Reiner stressed that unusual speech patterns and visible fatigue are more than a matter of public perception. “This is not just politics. It is about the stamina and health of the commander-in-chief. We are talking about the man leading the armed forces of the United States,” he said.
The president’s physical signs, though minor individually, add to the worry.
In July, the White House disclosed that Trump has chronic venous insufficiency, which caused swelling in his ankles. He has also shown persistent bruising on his hands, but the administration has not explained the cause.
Trump has faced questions about his health before. Reports of decreased activity and a so-called preventative MRI have drawn criticism and ridicule. He has dismissed such concerns while attacking media outlets as seditious or even treasonous.
Reiner’s assessment carries weight because of his experience treating high profile figures including the late Vice President Cheney. His warnings are not casual commentary. They reflect genuine concern from a medical expert.
