Although he’s been vice president for less than a week, JD Vance has already mastered the art of talking a lot but saying nothing while being condescending. This may be a record among politicians who aim to obfuscate as much as possible. Trump’s cabinet nominees have been doing this, so why not Vance?
While talking to Face The Nation host Margaret Brennan, he was in fine form, using many pretty words and blowing smoke up his boss’s a$$. Words that, if you took them all together, mean absolutely nothing. The fun began when Brennan asked him “You campaigned on lowering prices, which Executive Order does that?”
Yeah, JD, which executive order does that?
“We have done a LOT and there have been a number of executive orders that have caused already jobs to start coming back into our country which is a core part of lowering prices. More capital investment, more job creation in our economy is one of the things that’s going to drive down prices for all consumers but also raise wages so that people can afford to buy the things that they need…”
Brennan, smiling and understanding that he wouldn’t answer the question, pressed ahead anyway, saying, “So prices aren’t going to come back down.” At this point, most journalists are used to Trump administration minions giving nonanswers to important questions.

But then JD surprised me. Sort of.
“No, no, Margaret, prices ARE going to come down, but it will take a little bit of time, right? The…the president has been president for all of five days. I think that in these five days, he’s accomplished more than Joe Biden did in four years. It’s been an incredible, breakneck pace of activity. We’re going to work with Congress, we’re going to have more executive orders, and we’re going to try…the way you lower prices is you encourage more capital investment into our country.”
Well, blow that smoke, JD. Blow that smoke.
If you watched any of the Senate confirmation hearings, whether it’s Pam Bondi, Pete Hegseth, or any of Trump’s nattering nabobs of nothingness, you know the smoke is billowing. Why would Vance be any different?
Vance’s non-answers didn’t sit well with social media users, and they said so.

@KansasResisters used some interesting grammar but got the message across: “TRUMP/VANCE will create more Chaos not produce solutions that help Americans. Biden/Harris made America more great.”

For anyone who thinks Vance’s answers were just fine, @David_Charts made an excellent point and backed it up:
“What matters isn’t prices, but the wage level relative to prices, a.k.a. purchasing power or real (inflation-adjusted) wages. Real hourly wages for production workers were the highest ever under Biden on average.”

I don’t recall any Trump cabinet members giving straight answers. I watched Senators trying to wiggle answers out of these people, and it just never happened. I hope the press stands up to these people and asks the necessary questions so that the American people get the answers they deserve.
As our representatives, these people owe us the truth. Something they seem to be allergic to. I’m not hopeful about these next four years. We’ll see a series of unending lies, obfuscations, and people hoping we’re all stupid.
Be prepared because it’s coming.
