It’s hard to imagine the patience our country’s top infectious disease expert has to have to stand beside Donald Trump as the president gaslights the U.S. on the novel coronavirus pandemic, so Dr. Anthony Fauci is cautious with his words to correct the former reality show star. With just about everything Trump has done — and not done — with the pandemic, it backfires. The president threw his support behind Governors that want to reopen the economy in their states, and behind the dangerous gatherings of pro-Trump anti-lockdown protesters.
That’s dangerous rhetoric amid a pandemic that has taken nearly forty-one thousand American lives. But Trump is the most dangerous president in the history of our country.
Fauci appeared on Good Morning America Monday with host George Stephanopoulos, and he issued a warning after being asked what his message was for the Trumpers who have been protesting the lockdowns. Fauci also mentioned the Governors and the need for more testing.
“I think the message is that, clearly, this is something that is hurting from the standpoint of economics, from the standpoint of things that have nothing to do with the virus,” Fauci said. “But unless we get the virus under control, the real recovery, economically, is not going to happen.”

As far as the protests — which frankly look like an organized endeavor — Fauci basically thinks the Trumpers are a bunch of dumb shits.
“If you jump the gun and go into a situation where you have a big spike, you’re going to set yourself back,” Fauci warned. “So as painful as it is to go by the careful guidelines of gradually phasing into a reopening, it’s going to backfire [if you reopen prematurely]. That’s the problem.”

Dr. Fauci didn’t seem fazed by the Trumpers who have called for him to be fired. Our nation’s top infectious disease expert is not their babysitter as they stomp their feet because they can’t get a pedicure or buy lawn fertilizer. The problem here is that the protesters will infect others while the rest of us are responsibly self-quarantining to flatten the coronavirus curve.
