Female Pilot’s Family Responds After Trump Seemingly Blamed The Crash On DEI

There's no evidence that "DEI" was the reason for the plane crash in Washington.

Ever since last week’s plane crash near Washington’s Reagan Airport, Donald Trump and his allies have been pushing very hard to blame the crash on “DEI,” although trying to make that case has required some pretzel-like rationalizations.

At his press conference the day after the crash, the president blamed the practices of the Obama and Biden administrations and blamed them for the crash, although he was light on details as to how exactly such programs and practices were to blame.

“It just could have been. We have a high standard. We’ve had a much higher standard than anybody else. And there are things where you have to go by brainpower,” Trump said at that press conference. “You have to go by psychological quality, and psychological quality is a very important element of it. These are various, very powerful tests that we put to use. And they were terminated by Biden. And Biden went by a standard that seeks the exact opposite. So we don’t know. But we do know that you had two planes at the same level. You had a helicopter and a plane. That shouldn’t have happened.”

Throughout the week, there were efforts by some MAGA types to claim that the pilot of the helicopter in the crash – and, implicitly, the person to blame — was Jo Ellis, a transgender pilot who had given some interviews in the days prior about the effects of the Trump Administration’s anti-trans policy. But Ellis came forward the following day to state that she was alive and was not the pilot of the Blackhawk.

A few days later, Rebecca Lobach was identified as one of the people copiloting the helicopter and who had died in the crash. Her name, CNN said, had been withheld for a couple of days “at the family’s request.”

This led to another conspiracy theory that “they” had withheld Lobach’s name to avoid the “DEI” charge. But it’s not clear, at this point, who “they” is. The Trump-led government? The Elon Musk-led X?

Lobach’s family has released a statement on the passing of their daughter.

“Rebecca was a warrior and would not hesitate to defend her country in battle,” Lobach’s family said in a statement. “But she was as graceful as she was fierce: in addition to her duties as an Army aviator, Rebecca was honored to serve as a White House Military Social Aide, volunteering to support the President and First Lady in hosting countless White House events, including ceremonies awarding the Medal of Honor and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”
