First Lady Weighs In On Minneapolis Tragedy — And It Didn’t Go Over Well

There were some outraged reactions to Melania Trump's call for thoughts and prayers.

Following the news of the terrible school church shooting in Minneapolis on Wednesday, in which two children were killed and many more were injured, the usual platitudes came in from most politicians.

Among those who did so was First Lady Melania Trump.

“My heart is shattered for the families and friends of the victims of today’s senseless and depraved violent act,” the First Lady said on X Thursday. “There is nothing that anyone can say to make your grief go away, but please know that you are not alone. My thoughts, love, and deepest sympathy are with you during this dreadful time.”

Some of the replies and quote-tweets of Melania’s message were less than respectful, whether they were accusing her of callousness or referencing the Jeffrey Epstein files.

One political figure did say something very different: Jacob Frey, the mayor of Minneapolis, who declared at a church on Wednesday that “don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now. These kids were literally praying. It was the first week of school. They were in a church.”
