Fox News Host Presses Trump Adviser With Polls Showing Harris In The Lead

This didn't end well.

Corey Lewandowski’s rise to fame came during the 2016 Trump campaign, where he helped set the aggressive tone that defined the campaign’s approach to opponents. His frequent appearances on various networks often turned into confrontational and toxic exchanges, undoubtedly aimed at pleasing his boss. However, these tactics eventually backfired, leading to his dismissal from Trump’s team.

Despite that, his loyalty to Trump ensured he’d always have a place in the “Trump world,” especially now that the former president has dropped any pretense about his authoritarian ambitions if he returns to the White House.

So, we get Corey Lewandowski again.

It should be said that Donald Trumpā€™s relationship with Fox News is complicated. While the right-wing network has largely supported him and his MAGA base, Trump lashes out whenever they show even a hint of journalistic integrity. One such moment came during Fox News Sunday, when host Shannon Bream confronted Lewandowski about recent polling that showed Vice President Kamala Harris leading Trump in battleground states. It wasnā€™t just any pollā€”this was Foxā€™s own data, and it pointed to a shift in support toward Harris.

Bream presented the report, which was backed by data from USA Today, highlighting the demographic trends behind Harris’s lead and asked Lewandowski, “How do you turn around the momentum? Do you have time?”

In typical fashion, Lewandowski dismissed the facts, opting instead to boast about Trumpā€™s so-called campaign efforts.

“We have an incredible ground game operation running in our battleground states. We have a candidate who’s willing to work 24 hours a day for the American people. And we feel very good about our message, which is economic freedom and opportunity for everyone.”

This kind of deflection is standard practice for Trumpā€™s camp, where “alternative facts” are crafted to paint a better picture for supporters. Of course, polls are only taken seriously when they favor them. The moment they donā€™t, theyā€™re dismissed as unreliable.

On ABCā€™s This Week, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) reflected this cherry-picking of poll data. Normally, Republicans like Graham don’t put much stock in polls, especially when they’re losing. But now that the race between Harris and Trump is tightening, with Trump leading in some areas, Graham was more than happy to lean into the positive poll numbers.

Graham, a seasoned politician and MAGA loyalist, tends to be more pragmatic than some of Trumpā€™s die-hard supporters. Meanwhile, Trump’s inner circle remains entrenched in their own version of reality. Trump spokesman Steven Cheung emailed Newsweek* on Sunday, saying,

“Polling shows President Trump is dominating both nationally and in the battleground states because voters want a return to pro-America policies that actually work, not the radical policies of Comrade Kamala.”

As the campaign ramps up, itā€™s clear that for Trump and his allies, reality is what they make of itā€”especially when the facts don’t fit their narrative.
