Recently, foreign policy expert, intelligence analyst under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and Trump-appointed deputy assistant to the president and senior director for European and Russian affairs on his National Security Council staff took aim at the former president she once served under in a bombshell, brutal interview with the New York Times, amid a book tour for her new memoir.
In the interview, the former Trump official who served as a key witness in his first impeachment trial, relating to his attempted extortion of Ukraine, Hill very flat out compared Donald Trump to Russian dictatorial President Vladimir Putin — explaining that she saw the signs early on that Trump would go on to try to steal the 2020 presidential election, even long before that fateful day in January of 2021.
Hill spoke of her time under the Bush and Obama administrations during the interview, as well as her efforts during those terms to, somewhat unsuccessfully, warn the leaders of the threat that Russia’s Vladimir Putin truly posed.
As noted, the interview also came amid Hill’s book tour for her new memoir, in which she covers her time in the Trump administration, during which she was a presence during the stages of Donald Trump’s alleged efforts to extort Ukraine and their president, Voldomyr Zelenskyy, into giving him political dirt on his then-opponent Joe Biden by withholding congressionally approved military aid to the country. From April 2017 to July 2019, Hill served as the National Security Council’s senior director of Russian and European affairs.

It was in this same interview that Hill drew the comparison between ex-US President Donald Trump, and Russia’s dictatorial President Vladimir Putin.
“In the course of his presidency, indeed, Trump would come more to resemble Putin in political practice and predilection than he resembled any of his recent American presidential predecessors,” Hill told the Times.
“I saw the thread. The thread connecting the Zelensky phone call to Jan. 6, and I remembered how, in 2020, Putin had changed Russia’s Constitution to allow him to stay in power longer. This was Trump pulling a Putin.”
As soon as ex-President Trump caught wind of Hill’s public criticism, he did exactly what he’s always done.
In a clearly irate statement released to Twitter by his spokeswoman Liz Harrington, Trump fumed:
Fiona Hill is a Radical Left RINO, but the word RINO is too good. She doesn’t know the first thing she’s talking about. If she didn’t have the accent she would be nothing. During the Impeachment Hoax #1, she had no credibility, obviously, because we won unanimously. Never listened to her, I hardly knew her at all. She knew nothing about me, I knew nothing about her, and I liked it that way.”
It’s quite clear Fiona struck a nerve.
