President Donald Trump has turned the Rose Garden into the “Rose Garden Club,” as part of his slow campaign to turn the White House into Mar-a-Lago. The president’s dinner with tech leaders on Friday night was supposed to take place there, but was moved inside due to rain, although Trump held a dinner, attended by various Republican elected officials, on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Governor Newsom Press Office account on X had another thing to say about the new “club”: “Welcome to Predator Patio! Admission? Just prove you’re on the Epstein List!”

It’s part of Newsom’s continuing campaign of trolling of President Trump, while mocking Trump’s own social media style.

The Epstein crack arrived as the Jeffrey Epstein story continues to return to the news, especially after a group of Epstein victims visited Washington last week for a press conference. There’s also an effort in Congress to compel the release of the government’s Epstein files, while Speaker Johnson himself, last week, made the bizarre claim that Trump had been an “FBI informant” in the Epstein case. However, the Washington Post reported Sunday that Johnson has backed off the informant claim.

“The Speaker is reiterating what the victims’ attorney said, which is that Donald Trump — who kicked Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago — was the only one more than a decade ago willing to help prosecutors expose Epstein for being a disgusting child predator,” the speaker’s office said in a statement Sunday.

Also, Trump’s Department of Justice is opposing a push by NBC News to unseal the names of two people who received large payments from Epstein in 2018, around the time the Miami Herald began publishing a series about Epstein’s crimes and the sweetheart deal he received in 2008. Both of those people were reportedly covered in Epstein’s 2018 non-prosecution agreement.
