Right after President Trump took aim at George Clooney on social media, the actor hit back with a political reply.

Trump wrote on Truth Social on New Year’s Eve about Clooney getting French citizenship. He called it “Good News!” but quickly turned it into an attack. He brought up Clooney’s 2024 op-ed asking Biden to drop out of the race. He also criticized Clooney’s movies and career.

“Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies,” Trump wrote. “He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump’s post jumped from one topic to another. He mentioned debates, fundraisers, and other politicians in one long message.

Clooney responded calmly. “I totally agree with the current president,” he said. “We have to make America great again. We’ll start in November.”

Clooney was referring to the midterm elections. He thinks the Democrats could take back the House and possibly the Senate. His reply was short but carried a clear message about the vote.

Clooney, his wife Amal, and their children recently got French citizenship. He said France protects his family from paparazzi who try to take photos of his kids. Trump used the citizenship news to accuse Clooney of not being patriotic.

Clooney also talked about his past friendship with Trump. “I knew him very well,” he said. “He used to call me a lot, and he tried to help me get into a hospital once to see a back surgeon. I’d see him out at clubs and at restaurants. He’s a big goofball. Well, he was. That all changed.”

Clooney has often criticized Trump. He said news companies should have fought the president’s lawsuits more. “If CBS and ABC had challenged those lawsuits and said, ‘Go fuck yourself,’ we wouldn’t be where we are in the country,” Clooney said. “That’s simply the truth.”

The exchange shows just how personal Trump’s attacks can get. He mixes politics with insults and jumps from one target to another. Clooney didn’t fight back with name-calling. He stayed calm, kept it simple, and focused on the midterm elections.
