GOP Rep Massively Booed During Iowa Town Hall For Supporting Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’

This didn’t go well

Ashley Hinson expected a normal town hall in Decorah, Iowa. But what she got was boos, shouting, and laughter from a crowd that clearly wasn’t impressed.

Hinson stood before her constituents, ready to discuss her support for Donald Trump’s comprehensive legislative package, proudly dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill.” However, many of the people in the room disagreed with her.

She started her speech by saying, “I think it’s important to note that when we look at last year when we look at the election, I think Americans overwhelmingly rejected the status quo for the country. We were seeing an open border, high inflation, we were seeing men and women in Iowa and in our country feel like their voices were not heard.” Once she mentioned high inflation, the crowd started booing loudly.

She tried to continue by saying, “The president is, I believe, fighting for you and fighting for me.” That only made things worse. People in the room yelled, “No!” and made it clear they did not believe her. Even as she stayed calm, the crowd disagreed with what she was saying.

As she kept talking, Hinson said she was proud to vote for Trump’s bill. She explained that the bill would extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, increase funding for the military and border security, cut taxes on tips and overtime, and reduce funding for Medicaid and food assistance programs like SNAP.

But that made the crowd even louder. People booed and jeered, and she had to stop speaking for a moment.

Trying to respond, she said, “This is your time,” and then added, “I’m here to clean up lots of the misinformation out there today.” But when she said that, people in the crowd laughed. They no longer seemed interested in what she was saying.

During the question-and-answer part of the event, things became even more tense. One man stood up and asked about corruption in Washington. He mentioned that Trump accepted a luxury jet from Qatar and hosted a dinner for individuals who had invested millions in his meme coin. The man said, “There’s lots of reasons why somebody like you might be silent. You might be scared to say something. You might actually like to see the corruption … or you might not care about it.” Then he asked, “Can you help me understand why you are silent about this corruption?”

Hinson seemed upset but responded by saying, “I think it’s really unfair to imply that I like to see corruption in Washington D.C.” She added, “I’m here answering your questions in public because I care about transparency and accountability and doing things the right way.”  Then she looked at the man and said, “I’m answering your question. You may not like my answer, and that’s your right to not like my answer.” The crowd made more noise, clearly still not happy.

Things didn’t calm down. Another person asked why she wasn’t doing more to hold Trump and his cabinet responsible for ignoring court orders. He asked, “When are you going to do the responsibility that you were elected for by holding the executive branch accountable up to and including impeachment?” Hinson answered, “Judges need to follow the law. I don’t think this country needs another impeachment charade.” But after she said that, people started shouting again. Some yelled, “You are a fraud!”
