Unfortunately, we’re all very painfully aware that during the nationwide George Floyd protests, then-President Donald Trump took a complicated, heart-wrenching situation and made it that much worse.

But we weren’t truly aware of the length the now-former guy went to in an apparent effort to stoke panic, fear, and alarm among state leaders across the country.

That is, until now.

According to the new book by New York Times reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns, This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future, then-President Donald Trump held a call with various state governors in the midst of the George Floyd protests across the country, and became so unhinged and deranged, that state leaders called people in to listen to his “scary” rant, as they feared he was quite literally in the midst of a “nervous breakdown.”

Excerpts from the book, obtained and published by The Hill, say Trump demanded that state officials crack down on protesters in their various states and restore order. Trump was allegedly so worked up during the call that Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, a Democrat, called her husband into the room to listen in on the call.

“You can’t make this sh*t up,” Brown told her spouse, according to the book.

Maine Democratic Governor Janet Mills was apparently so shaken by Trump’s behavior that she called in a security guard to hear the call.

“You gotta sit here and listen to this because I think the president of the United States is having a nervous breakdown or something, and it’s scary,” Mills reportedly told the security guard.

Martin and Burns have gained traction and popularity for their upcoming book in recent weeks, following their bombshell revelation over the infamous new Kevin McCarthy scandal.
