Harvard University Professor Announces He Has Left The Republican Party Because It Is Now The “Party Of Trump”

The rest of the party should follow suit.

To be quite frank about it, I’ve never been a fan of the Republican party. I’ve been a true blue Democrat since my days of Preschool playground democracies. I’ve never not felt like it was just the right, kind way to be. I’ve always thought of the Republican party as selfish, self-serving, “fuck everyone but me” sort of folks and it’s just not the type of person that I have ever wanted to be — despite an insanely conservative upbringing.

However, I will be the first bleeding heart Liberal to admit that the Grand Old Party hasn’t always been the complete and utter shitstorm that it has become under the leadership of Donald J. Trump. There was a time, before this particular reign of terror, that I could chalk the Republicans up as probably halfway decent human beings who just had different political views than I did. I didn’t agree with them, but I didn’t have the constant urge to burn the whole party to the ground that I do now.

And evidently, I am not alone in my newfound hate for the reconstructed Republican party under Trump.

Harvard University economics professor Greg Mankiw has now revealed that he has made the decision to leave the Republican party as a whole due to its reinvention under Trump.

In a blog post by the former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under President George W. Bush titled, “I Am No Longer A Republican” Mankiw explains why he has changed his voter registration to Independent.

“I just came back from city hall, where I switched my voter registration from Republican to unenrolled (aka independent),” Mankiw wrote in his blog post.

“The Republican Party has largely become the Party of Trump,” he continued. “Too many Republicans in Congress are willing, in the interest of protecting their jobs, to overlook Trump’s misdeeds (just as too many Democrats were for Clinton during his impeachment).”

“I have no interest in associating myself with that behavior. Maybe someday, the party will return to having honorable leaders like Bush, McCain, and Romney. Until then, count me out.”

This isn’t the first time that Mankiw has expressed his disdain for Donald Trump either, writing in a 2016 blog post, “I have Republican friends who think that things couldn’t be worse than doubling down on Obama policies under Hillary Clinton. And, like them, I am no fan of the left’s agenda of large government and high taxes. But they are wrong: Things could be worse. And I fear they would be under Mr. Trump.”

“I am not a psychologist, so I cannot figure out what Mr. Trump’s personal demons are,” he added. “But he does not show the admirable disposition that I saw in previous presidents and presidential candidates I have had the honor to work for.”

It’s high time GOPers realize that this is not the party it once was and Donald Trump is effectively giving them ALL a bad name.
