Hillary Clinton is not staying quiet about what’s happening at the White House. The former Secretary of State and first lady blasted President Donald Trump on Tuesday after he began construction of a new ballroom inside the East Room.
“It’s not his house. It’s your house. And he’s destroying it,” Clinton wrote on social media.

The Trump administration first revealed the ballroom plan back in July. The idea was to add a grand space for state dinners and ceremonies. But work only started this week, and with a much bigger price tag than before. The project was first listed at $200 million, but that has now jumped to $250 million.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the project was “fully funded by private donors.” Trump, never one to miss a chance to praise himself, celebrated the expansion as a dream come true.
“Completely separate from the White House itself, the East Wing is being fully modernized as part of this process, and will be more beautiful than ever when it is complete!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He also claimed, “For more than 150 years, every President has dreamt about having a Ballroom at the White House to accommodate people for grand parties, State Visits, etc. I am honored to be the first President to finally get this much-needed project underway — with zero cost to the American Taxpayer!”
Zero cost, but not without questions. Critics say this new ballroom will deepen Trump’s conflicts of interest. The use of “private donors” to fund presidential projects sounds too familiar to those who remember his past controversies.
“People who want to be in good with the president are going to write checks,” said Richard W. Painter, the former chief ethics lawyer under President George W. Bush. “It’s just a whole extension of the pay-to-play problem that we’ve had in government for years.”
Painter also warned that the setup is “teed up for a very transactional approach.”
The plan calls for 90,000 square feet of space, bulletproof glass, and room for 650 guests. Construction company Clark Construction is leading the work, while McCrery Architects is behind the design.
“I am honored that President Trump has entrusted me to help bring this beautiful and necessary renovation to The People’s House,” said McCrery CEO Jim McCrery.
The ballroom isn’t the only major change. Trump also added two massive 88-foot-tall American flags outside and revamped the Rose Garden.
